The beach was packed with spectators waiting to see if their team was a winner.

Here’s Sills Saskia (GBR956) showing off her flag and celebrating with teammates.

2010 San Francisco NOOD regatta

More than 150 boats joined in this year’s Sperry Topsider NOOD regatta in San Francisco this past weekend including my favorites, the F18 catamarans. With 20 entrants, the 18 foot catamarans were one of the largest classes in attendance. Click on any of the pictures below to see more regatta photos.

There was also some good kite racing action. Here’s a kite passing another competing sailboat to weather.

First Friday night formula windsurfing race of 2010

The first Friday night race of the 2010 windsurfing season kicked off tonight with beautiful, sunny weather, winds of 15-18 mph, and great attendance. Steve Bodner (USA4) managed to score the first win of the year by edging out Eric Christianson (22) just as they were approaching the finish line.

I tried to label all the photos with the right sail numbers and sailor names, but if I missed any let me know. You can always find your photos by clicking on your keyword link. Example: Steve Bodner. Whenever I upload new windsurfing photos of you, they will automatically be added under your keyword. I will also label the Friday night races this season with the keyword “Friday Night” for easy access. Tonight’s race can also be found using the keyword “April 16 2010“.

First ever kiteboard course racing world championship

Yesterday marked the conclusion of the first ever kiteboard course racing world championship. After countless hours of work translating sailing rules to fit the kite racing style, building specialized boards to go high upwind and deep downwind, and gathering the best sailors from around the world, the St. Francis Yacht Club put on a great event. The beach at Crissy Field was covered with kites and spectators.

Friday night windsurfing race

Last night featured some powered-up racing at StFYC’s Friday night series. There were some pretty serious gusts making their way down the course. One created some problems for a couple of the sailors below. As the gust hit you could see their boards being lifted right off the water as they struggled to hang on. No crashes here though. Everyone was able to keep things under control and make it through the race.

College sailing Women’s Nationals semi finals

Today’s racing at College Sailing Nationals was the Women’s semi finals. Teams were competing for 9 spots in the finals taking place later this week. The day started with racing on the B course to offer some protection from the flooding current. Racing in the afternoon was on the A course just off the yacht club.
