Another beautiful sunset from Crissy Field.

Even after a week of solid racing, a group of formula windsurfers took to the water today for some training. Steve Sylvester and Xavier Ferlet sailed from Berkeley to Crissy Field to meet up with Steve Bodner, Soheil Zahedi, and Aurelien le Matayer. Here are a few overhead shots of their session. While down at Crissy Field today shooting windsurfing and sailing pictures today, I think I experienced someone jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. All of a sudden I saw the Coast Guard boat and the police boat and a jetski with scuba diver on back all racing toward the south tower of the bridge. Then I heard a fire truck and ambulance on their way to Fort Point. And then I looked up at the bridge and saw red lights flashing just to the left of the south tower.

Today’s current was nearly 6 knots flowing out under the Golden Gate Bridge but that didn’t keep Steve Bodner (USA4) from getting on the water for some formula windsurfing training. I met up with steve at Fort Point – he was in the water and I was on shore. At times Steve looked like he was on a treadmill, sailing full speed but making no forward progress. There was also one brave person kitesurfing under the bridge and I got this shot just as he jumped. Luckily both riders were able to make it safely back to Crissy Field while there was still enough wind to overcome the strong current.Check out the photo gallery. |
Today I headed up onto the Golden Gate Bridge to try to get a view different from the normal stand-on-the-beach. It was so windy up there I felt like I was going to get blown over the edge.
After that, I headed back down to Crissy Field to get a few shots. Here’s Soheil Zahedi and Jean Rathle on their small gear.
