It’s hard to remember that it is mid-January when the weather is so nice. After a day of enjoying the sunshine down in Half Moon Bay, I couldn’t pass up the beautiful sunset that was forming. On the horizon, the sun was clearly visible. Overhead, wispy clouds had formed. And over the beach and inland, a layer of fog was settling in. Instead of the usual sunset photo, I was trying to get something a bit more unique. I walked out to the overlook at Sutro Park and found this old chain link fence with a whole in it to frame the sunset.
I also found the leftovers of a hopscotch game.

Thanks to a tip from Steve, I headed down to Ocean Beach to check out reports of an 1800′s shipwreck being visible at low tide. Back in 1878, a clipper ship broke free from its anchor and ran aground on the beach right at the end of Noriega Street. Sure enough, there it was, although a little less glamorous than what I was expecting. The timbers of the ship can be seen peeking out of the sand.
Check out the SFGate article for more info. Check the Ocean Beach Bulletin for a few more photos.

UPDATE 05/20/11: Today, nearly the full length of the ship was visible. I arrived a bit after low tide and the ship was starting to be covered back up by the incoming water.

We had a visitor in town this past week and took her on a drive up to Muir Woods via the Marin Headlands, Marine Mammal Center, and Rodeo Beach. Having been to Muir Woods many times, I am always at a loss for new photo ideas that aren’t the same old picture of looking skyward at the giant trees. This time I found a leaf on the ground and tried to use it to get some different sorts of photos.

Although the forecast called for the storm to continue on into the night, the skies cleared just enough to make for a beautiful sunset.
